"Gusto po natin na ang committee ay para sa taong bayan, hindi lang pansarili". These are the exact words of Sen. Manny Pacquiao as he defended his motion to oust Sen. Leila De Lima as the chair of the Senate's Committee on Justice and Human Rights, GMA News reported.
Pacquiao declared the justice panel vacant days after a self-confessed vigilante assassin testified before the committee that Pres. Rodrigo Duterte asked him to execute kill orders in Davao City.
Pacquiao, a senator who hails from Mindanao, is known to be a close ally of Pres. Duterte.
The motion was called after De Lima walked out of the Senate Session Hall while Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, former running mate of Pres. Duterte, gave his privilege speech accusing De Lima of using the Justice Committee to destroy the reputation of the President.
The former DOJ Secretary announced that she will answer Cayetano's allegations when she delivers her own privilege speech on Tuesday. De Lima also accused Pres. Duterte of being the reason behind the motion to oust her.
