A female Brazilian national was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 on Saturday for the alleged possession of at least six kilograms of cocaine. Authorities identified the suspect as Yasmin Silva, 20, from Sau Paolo. She arrived at the NAIA Terminal 3 shortly before 6 p.m. on board Emirates Airline flight EK-332 from Dubai. A Filipino seaman was arrested along Silva. The seaman, however, claimed that he just carried Silva's luggage, where the P30 million worth cocaine was found.

OCTOBER 15, 2016 — A total of 6.2 kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of P40 million was intercepted earlier tonight at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3. The operation was conducted by a joint task force against illegal drugs composed of officials from the Bureau of Customs, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Bureau of Immigration, and the Manila International Airport Authority.

MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal told MindaNation that the contraband was being brought into the country by a Brazilian national who flew in from Dubai. He credited the success of this and two previous operations that prevented the entry of illegal drugs into the Philippines to the “improved intelligence gathering and coordination among the members of the task force.”

He also said the intensified efforts at preventing the entry of illegal drug into the country is “in line with President Duterte’s very clear directive” against the proliferation of illegal drugs.
