Aquino expressed confidence that his former Secretary of Justice now Senator De Lima would be able to hurdle past the cases against her and 7 others, for drug trafficking and conspiring to perpetuate illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), filed by Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) thru its representative Chairman Dante Jimenez, to fund her senatorial campaign to which she vehemently denied.
The other accused are former justice undersecretary Francisco Baraan III, former Bureau of Corrections chief Franklin Bucayu, De Lima’s former security aides and alleged lovers Ronnie Dayan and Joenel Sanchez, De Lima’s alleged nephew Jose Adrian Dera, Wilfredo Ely, and convicted kidnapper and carnapper Jaybee Sebastian.
Bucayu, Sanchez and Sebastian all testified during the House probe that De Lima is the one facilitating the illegal drug trade inside the NBP. The lady senator denied all accusations, claiming that the witnesses were pressured to testify against her.
“Respondents definitely saw how profitable the system established in the Bilibid at that time. Like hungry wolves, they took advantage of their power, influence and resources. In this case, respondents clearly acted in conspiracy. They all came to an agreement concerning the sale and trade of drugs and acted on such understanding.
This fact was substantiated through various testimonies of inmates. All witnesses had personal encounters with Senator De Lima and had their own story to tell as to how respondents with the mutual aid of one another, traded and trafficked drugs inside the prison.
Senator De Lima utilized her power and authority as then Secretary of Justice (SOJ) to abet and even promote the proliferation of massive drug trade inside the Bilibid.”
CHAIRMAN DANTE JIMENEZ, VOLUNTEERS AGAINST CRIME AND CORRUPTION (VACC)
No less than current Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte himself accused De Lima of her involvement in the illegal drug trade inside NBP.
“We are waiting for the truth and I think, [Senator de Lima] can issue her positions and points to clear her name.”
FORMER PRESIDENT BENIGNO AQUINO III, DURING A GATHERING OF ANTI-MARCOS PROTESTERS AT THE LUNETA PARK IN MANILA
Stressing that justice must prevail throughout the country, Aquino recalled the fraudulent trial his father, former Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., went through during the Marcos-led Martial Law era.
“Pinakamadilim na bahagi ng Martial Law na aking personal na naranasan ‘yung paglilitis sa aking ama. Talagang pinapabasa sa mga testigo umano ‘yung script at ‘pag nagkamali ng sagot, hihinto ‘yung pagdinig at inuulit basahin ‘yung script,” said the son and namesake of former senator Benigno Aquino Jr. [One of the darkest parts of Martial Law that I personally experienced was during my father’s trial when the witnesses were ordered to read prepared testimonies. If they answer contrary to the script, the trial would pause and they would reread the script.]
Inaasahan natin ‘yung pinaglaban natin na may hustisya, talagang umiiral sa bansa [We hope that the justice we fought for prevails in our country.]”
FORMER PRESIDENT “NOYNOY” AQUINO
